Types of Teeth

Teeth are those bonelike structures in our mouth that we use for eating food. For some animals, like dogs, they use it for defense and for hunting prey. Aside from eating, teeth are usually seen when we smile. Clean, white teeth are important for maintaining a beautiful smile so a visit to a Dayton dentist twice a year would be best.

There are four different types of teeth with each type having a specific purpose. Four pairs of incisors are located at the center of the mouth and have sharp chisel-shaped crowns meant for cutting food. Beside the incisors are two pairs of cuspids They are pointed and meant for tearing food. After the cuspids are four pairs of bicuspids or premolars . Like the cuspids, they are also used for tearing and crushing food. Lastly, the molars are located beside the premolars at the back of the mouth. They are arranged in sets of three. The broad surfaces of the molars are used for chewing and grinding food.

Adults usually have a 16 pairs of teeth while children have less depending on their age. Teeth are used not only for eating but also for speaking. A lot of words are impossible to pronounce properly without the help of both tongue and teeth.

A nice smile always looks refreshing and should add to the way you look. Having clean teeth is also important for maintaining good health. A trip to a Dayton family dentist twice a year can really make a difference as Dayton dentistry is definitely one of the best.
